It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
